I wrote this post over a month ago and for some reason never posted it. I'm posting it now, but beware that some of the shop items may no longer be listed there. I still love this shop though so definitely give it a look over.
Remember a couple weeks ago I mentioned a booth at Brooklyn Flea that I loved but couldn't find the business card to? Found it! I think it was hiding in a bag of a knitting project, of course.
Flux Productions is "a small company which emphasizes care and craft rather than mass production." (stolen off the Etsy page). Like I said last time, these shirts are super soft. The prints are so fun. Click the images to be take to the Etsy listing!!
This is my favorite and what caught my eye at the booth. I absolutely love the smoke print.
A sample of them men's shirts:
I love this shirt. The print is so creative.
Of course I have to show the smoke shirt in the men's version :o)
All of these products are made in Brooklyn, which I of course love. Definitely go check out the full shop!
PS check out this business card (and please excuse my poor quality cell phone pics...really need a camera)

Back
These cards are great! Simple with a great logo. And the back is so cute. It's a simple road map over the bamboo plants print. Unique and creative. The cards themselves are printed on a thiiiick cardstock (plus) with nicely rounded edges (plus plus!). Where can I get cards like these? (says the girl who just got 250 cards in the mail and might get 500 more free...thank you Vistaprint.)
Happy Valentine's Day!! A little late, you say? Well, not for me. Because of crazy work/school schedules, The Boy and I just celebrated Valentine's Day Monday night so therefore I've been putting off my Valentine's Day post too.
Here's my baking for Valentine's Day (or at least what I haven't shown yet):
(also available on the package of Hershey's Cocoa Powder)
*it's amazingly delicious*
Yummy Sugar Cookies
Brother ate all of these :o)
Cupcakes
These were supposed to be for Valentine's Gifts, but I had so many extras I wound up giving them away to customers at the card store and The Boy gave some away at Red Lobster. Dad did have a bunch for breakfast too though the next morning :o)
This was supposed to be a Christmas gift but it didn't ship in time. I say it was a great Valentine's gift instead:
It's a necklace. The charm is a ball of yarn with knitting needles sticking out. :o) yay! Unfortunately, the charm seems to be too heavy for the chain and the chain keeps slipping through the jump ring. Gotta get a thicker chain for it I guess.
Here's the finished Emma on the birthday girl (full post to come later):
Oh Brooklyn Flea, how you tease me. I did not find the Scavenger Hunt item :o( I did find a bracelet that I liked but The Boy didn't. I didn't buy it. Figured I'll come back later if I'm still thinking about it. While I wasn't looking, he bought it for me :o). Such a sweetie
The wrist chain is HUGE though. But I'm thinking since I've been dabbling in jewelry while making stitch markers for the soon-to-be Etsy shop, I have the tools to alter it a bit and find a way to shorten it. I think it's going to need a new, smaller clamp to hold it close and I can take all the extra jump rings off because I obviously don't need the option to make it longer. Other loves from Brooklyn Flea: my Mash Veggie Dog from AsiaDog and a Banana Peanut Butter Cupcake from Kumquat Cupcakery. (Notice how it's all about the food with me...) I did see some super soft awesome printed tees there too. Grabbed the guy's card but I don't know where I put it now. He did have an Etsy shop though so when I find it beware!
After the Flea a friend and I headed over to Brooklyn Central Library for the first meeting of the Brooklyn Yarn and Fiber Guild (yea we picked the name during the meeting hehe). It was pretty interesting- we discussed bylaws, dues, meeting places, and had some getting-to-know-you going on. Of course I have work scheduled when the next meeting is but I'm gonna try to switch days maybe.
Yesterday I came home after class to a teensy box sitting on the floor of the vestibule with my name on it. What could it be? (Of course I forgot all about the package I've been waiting for, but then again it wasn't supposed to be here until March 4th). My business cards came! Thankfully everything was printed correctly and they look great! I used a general template from the free section of Vistaprint for now until I get a banner/logo created for the shop. I just had to order these though so I can start handing them out on the subway. People stare at me working so I might as well make use of their interest right?
I was going to write a post about Valentine's day but decided to post-pone. That fun till have to wait until next week (maybe). Instead, here's just some fun things I'm loving right now...
Alice in Wonderland Trailer...can't wait to see it!!
(Sorry it doesn't fit...it won't let me adjust the size)

This chick is awesome. She's created this blog to do her challenge projects: The 365. She's writing, recording and posting 1 new song everyday for a year. That's a biiiiig undertaking I'm sure. As I can't do any of that stuff, I'm going with that. She's also in a band (how I found out about her and her project) called Pearl and the Beard. It's 2 chicks and a guy. Which I found out from roommie (who works for their record label) that by "Pearl" she (not Emily, the other girl in the band who's name I can't spell) meant "Purl" because she knits! As if I needed any more reason to love these guys. They changed the spelling so it would match "Beard." They are amazing singer and musicians- they have guitar, some sort of drums, cello (that's Emily), a kid's xylophone which is awesome, accordion and maybe a violin (I'm not good with naming instruments haha). The band's site is http://pearlandthebeard.com/
Oh oh oh I found a funny video of them. This is their Will Smith Medley (I llooooovvveeee Jocelyn's dress in this video!)
First, the name Pyrex immediately catches my attention. This is tomorrow's Scavenger Hunt item for Brooklyn Flea. Basically, it's a giant traveling flea market taking up residency in various parts of Brooklyn for short time periods. Right now it's in an old bank. Boring right? NO! This place is gorgeous! It was built back in the day when people actually cared about how their buildings and interiors looked, back when people were all about being ornate and decorative. There's so much marble there, and being that StepDad is a tile guy specializing in marble, I was suggesting he come if they were going to be in town on a weekend (they were not). But in telling that, I found out that Grandma used to be a cleaning lady there during the after hours to make some extra money as a kid/youngin' (yes this was back in the day too). If you want to see some pictures you can check out the owning company's website: http://www.skylightnyc.com/ (click One Hanson). The Scavenger Hunt... Each weekend the Flea posts 2 items (one for each day) that will be free to whoever finds it. I want these! Purely because I found a tutorial online for making teacup pincushions. I hate the boring old tomato/strawberry ones and loved the creative and pretty ones the lady made. And these would be perfect to make some with! So tomorrow I will be hunting for them, as well as some fun beads/buttons and such for knitting projects and stitch markers.
Lion Brand never ceases to amaze me with their crazy creations. These are giant knit animals that were on display the Craft and Hobby Association convention recently. They blogged about it here on their own site. But definitely go check out the pictures they're amazing!
This is a video from Thursday night/Friday morning of one of the schools I sub at...
With one school down now, looks like I won't be getting many calls for the rest of the school year. Guess that means more time I can spend developing my etsy shop (and doing homework...maybe).
A week and a half ago, The Boy was at work and someone commented on the hat I made him for Christmas. When he told her I made it, she requested the same one in black and white. We walked to Brooklyn Flea that Sunday (a post about this to come) and on the way back we stopped at Stitch Therapy to grab the yarn. For his hat, I'd used Berroco Ultra Alpaca. Unfortunately, the shop didn't have any white in this so I bought Berroco Cuzco, figuring it was close enough in gauge and a little girlier looking anyway.
Before I could even cast on, she told The Boy that she'd take two hats- one black with white stripes and one white with black stripes and she'd pay double. Gotta love it!
I reworked the pattern and numbers a bit to make the gauge fit the size and cast on. I've been working on this pretty much non-stop, forcing the Northern Lights Cardigan (NLC now) to be put on the back burner for the most part. I'm working them double knit. Yeah I know... all the trouble I've had with double knitting lately, why do it again, right? But that way I knew I'd have two identical hats in reverse colors. And it doesn't really have the "oh now I have to knit another one" feeling after I finish one.
I absolutely love the way this yarn is knitting up. It feels so so nice. So soft and fuzzy. I'm getting jealous. I want one for me now!
After double knitting and working the balls from center-pull and the outside end, I wound up with this giant tangled mess.
Luckily now I'm past the striping and back to just two threads. And also at the decreasing
Mirror images :o) and almost done!
**Oh and sidenote- I have been working on this while watching LOST (among other things like breakfast at the diner, subway rides, waiting around...) and haven't made any major oopsies. Thank you non-stop stockinette stitch!
